ELGI meeting 7th November 2017

In October 2017 KIREI Chemical LTD company became a member of ELGI (European Lubricating Grease Institute) international grease association (www.elgi.org). ELGI is situated in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It was established in May 1989 and is an independent, self-governing institute, financed solely by members. It is one of a group of scientific and technical institutes active in the field of tribology dealing with lubricating greases and associated products. In 7th November 2017 KIREI Chemical LTD has participated in annual conference in Amsterdam. Among participants there was a major lubricants, base oil and additive companies in the world:

  1. Grease producers: KIREI Chemical LTD, Royal MFG, Shell, Total Lubrifiants, Exxon Mobil, Brugarolas, Axel Christenson, Kluber Lubrication, Sinopec etc.
  2. Base oil producers: Nynas
  3. Additive suppliers: Afton Chemical, Lubrizol, Chemtura, Rhein Chemie
  4. Bearing producers: SKF
  5. Magazines: Lubes and Greases
  6. Test equipment manufacturers: Falex Tribology, Pamas Gmbh, Koehler
  7. Oil laboratories: Oelcheck

During this meeting we discussed problems connected with:

  • Food Grade Lubricants. The main topics of discussion was updating of NSF 3H category,  problems with mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons (MOSH) and mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) legislation
  • Grease Particle Evaluation. Joe Kaperick from Afton Chemical has presented a new method of grease particle test. It was discussed that grease particles cause the mechanical wear of bearings and that is why needed to be calculated. A new method will be introduced asap.
  • Test Methods. Dr Gareth Fish from Lubrizol company explained rheological properties an tests methods which can be used for centralized lubrication systems (CLS). Also a new method ASTM D5483 (Grease oxidation test) was discussed during this session. Michael Anderson from Falex presented an interesting test method for tackiness checking.
  • Bio-base Grease
  • Railway Lubricants
