Technical Bulletin 1, issued by Kevin Ferrick, API’s senior manager for engine oil licensing, addresses the adoption of new diesel engine oil service categories API Service CK-4 and API Service FA-4 into the API 1509 Standard. 

It’s hard to imagine a machine operating without grease in it, as the majority of dynamic machine operations run on bearings, which need grease for lubrication. Historically, the utilization of grease to lubricate a wheel and axle occurred just after the discovery of the wheel. 

The decision to make a lubricant change within a machine should always be carefully evaluated. With greases, as opposed to oils, it is especially important to be cautious when switching from one lubricant type to another.
